Educational Opportunities Communication
Sign Language Class The
UMC Deaf Ministry provides Beginning Communication Sign Language Classes.
This twelve-week course teaches Deaf Culture, Terminology, Finger Spelling,
Basic Sign Communication and gives participants an opportunity to interact with
Deaf. These classes are scheduled
each spring and fall or can be scheduled at your church’s convenience.
The classes are about 1 hour and 45 minutes twice a week.
The cost is $45.00 for members of United Methodist congregations and
$55.00 for non-members. Intermediate
Level classes can be offered as needed. Deaf
Awareness Seminar This
two-hour course is offered to churches at no cost.
Participants will learn about the various aspects of deaf and hard of
hearing persons in relations to deaf culture and language and will receive an
overview of the UMC Deaf Ministry.
An offering is taken to offset the costs of travel and materials. Topics

and how to use a Professional Interpreter ·

/ Legal Issues regarding Deaf Rights and where to go for support Signing
to Music Workshop This
two-hour workshop teaches how to prepare to interpret and sign music accurately.
Several songs will be studied and participants will have the opportunity
to work on preparing a hymn of their choice.
The cost for this class is $10.00 per participant.
